Steam Traps on Desuperheaters
Has anyone had any experience in sizing steam traps after a
desuperheating station on steam lines. My logically thinking is that the
trap (or traps) should be sized to drain water that may be inject by
the spraywater system as follows:
1. As in our case the steam
flow is not constant and there is the possibility that the spraywater
control valve may pass or even fail open when not in use.
2.
Steam trapping is sized to cope with the spraywater that is injected
based on the spraywater control valve going fully open with a normal
upstream operating pressure.
Is my thinking correct?

It seems that you will have superheated steam in most any-event, just with poor temperature control. Steam trap is likely just for start-up use, when large volumes of condensate can form in lines? Desuperheater/attemporator supplier could likely help you there, as well as ASME codes; sorry wasn't of much more help ...
