The title of your post says that you have steam heat. Your post
mentioned "bleeding the system". You don't bleed steam systems, only hot
water systems. If you have a pipe coming in your radiator and one
exiting, with a bleeder valve, you have a hot water system. If you have
one pipe coming in your radiator with a vent on the other side you have
a steam system. If you have a steam system be sure you have enough pitch back to the
valve. You may have to shim the radiator to get the condensed water to
drain back. If you don't have enough pitch back, trapped water can block
the steam preventing heat from entering the radiator. With the system
on, check the pipe before the check valve. Is it hot?If you have a hot water system you do need to bleed the whole system
of air in the line. Start with the radiators closest to the boiler and
work your way upstairs. If you still don't have a hot radiator on the
top floor, you may not have enough pressure from the boiler. Be sure to
check that the valve is open too.
