I live in a very old apartment building. My radiator has two pipes coming from it, one on the left side at the top with an adjustable flow gate valve, and one on the right side at the bottom with a small device I believe is a steam trap. My apartment gets plenty warm with just the bathroom radiator on, so I leave the one in my room closed off.
